KENWORTHY ROAD

Kenworthy Road Bridge, London’s second most driven into bridge!
After finishing my series of ‘Six Visions of Hackney Wick’, which featured a whole load of industrial units, old factories, and warehouses, I was really keen to paint something a bit more residential and typical East London.
Kenworthy Road is all of 15 mins from Hackney Wick, so felt like a great subject to tackle, and I really like the density of trad terraced houses, rail infrastructure, and some newer built apartment buildings on this road.
In 2016 it was reported in the Evening Standard that Kenworthy Road bridge was the second most struck bridge in London, getting hit 17 times by tall vehicles driving underneath it. Not the reason I painted it, but an interesting reminder of how so much of London’s built environment is from another era.
