Lawrence Brand is a visual artist who lives and works in East London.
Before concentrating his creative work into oil painting after the 2020 pandemic Brand had focused on photography and the design and creation of unique bicycles.
His design for a modern cargo carrying bicycle developed in 2014 was field tested with a solo 5,000km bike ride to Kazakhstan, and the resulting business established to produce them led to Brand winning a Forbes ‘30under30’ title, and being featured alongside the original prototype bike as part of the Design Museum’s 2015 ‘Cycle Revolution’ exhibition.
Turning to oil painting in 2021, Brand evolved his existing city focused style of urban photography into more complex compositions. Shrouded in fog, the scenes are both immediately familiar, and subtly dislocated.
